Electrolux Home Products recalled approximately 87,000 front-load washing machines sold under the Electrolux and Frigidaire brand names due to a potential fire hazard from the heating element. CPSC Recall #16-220 was announced in July 2016 after reports of the washer’s heating element failing and overheating during wash cycles.
The heating element in affected units could overheat and ignite surrounding components inside the washer housing. Electrolux received reports of incidents including melting, smoke, and fire damage. No injuries were reported at the time of the recall announcement.
Affected Models
The recall covers Electrolux EFLS617S and Frigidaire FAFS4474L series front-load washers manufactured between January 2013 and January 2016. The model and serial number are printed on a label inside the door frame.
Required Action Steps
- Stop using the steam or sanitize wash cycle immediately.
- Locate the model and serial number on the label inside the washer door frame.

- Schedule the free in-home repair to replace the heating element assembly.
- Do not use the steam cycle until the recall repair is complete.
