Electrolux recalled approximately 21,000 over-the-range microwaves due to a fire hazard. CPSC Recall #15-178 was issued in 2015 after the microwave’s wiring harness was found to be improperly routed during manufacturing, which could cause the wires to contact the magnetron or other high-heat components and ignite.
Affected units could overheat during microwave operation, producing smoke or flames behind the control panel area. Electrolux received several consumer reports of smoke and burning smell before the recall was issued.

The recall covers Electrolux EI30SM55J over-the-range microwave ovens manufactured between May 2014 and September 2015. The model number is located on the rating plate inside the microwave door.

- Stop using the microwave immediately.
- Locate the model and serial number on the rating plate inside the door opening.
- Contact Electrolux at 1-877-435-3287 to confirm recall eligibility and schedule a free repair.
- A technician will reroute the wiring harness and install a protective shield.
