Electrolux refrigerator ice maker water leak recall (2017) — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.

Electrolux recalled approximately 42,000 French Door refrigerators due to a water leak hazard from the ice maker water supply connection. CPSC Recall #17-071 was issued after reports of the ice maker supply line connector failing, causing water to leak inside the refrigerator compartment and onto the kitchen floor.

The water supply line fitting inside the refrigerator could crack or loosen over time, resulting in slow leaks that could go undetected until significant water damage occurred to flooring, cabinetry, or the kitchen below. In some cases, the leaking water reached electrical components inside the refrigerator.

Affected Models

The recall covers Electrolux EI23BC82S and EW23BC87S French Door refrigerator models manufactured between October 2015 and December 2016. The model number is on the rating plate inside the fresh food compartment.

Required Action Steps

  1. Inspect the area around the ice maker for signs of water or ice accumulation.
  2. If active leaking is present, shut off the water supply valve behind the refrigerator.
  3. Contact Electrolux at 1-877-435-3287 to schedule the free repair.
  4. A technician will replace the ice maker water supply connector with a redesigned version.
  5. Check for and report any water damage to flooring or cabinetry.

Urgency Level

MODERATE — inspect and schedule repair promptly. The refrigerator may continue to be used for cooling, but the water supply to the ice maker should be shut off until the repair is complete to prevent further leaking.
