Electrolux oven: self-clean safety precautions — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.
The self-clean cycle on Electrolux wall ovens and ranges heats the oven cavity to approximately 900°F (480°C) — high enough to burn off food residue but also high enough to cause serious injury, damage, or carbon monoxide production if used improperly.
Before Starting Self-Clean
- Remove all racks, cookware, and aluminum foil from the oven cavity
- Wipe up large food debris or spills manually — large deposits can smoke excessively or ignite
- Ensure the kitchen is well ventilated — open windows or run the range hood fan
- Remove pets (especially birds) from the kitchen — fumes at self-clean temperatures can be toxic to birds
- Do not leave the home during the self-clean cycle
During Self-Clean
The oven door locks automatically and will remain locked until the oven cools below a safe temperature. Do not attempt to force the door open. Some smoke and odor during self-clean is normal, but heavy smoke indicates excessive food residue that should have been manually cleaned first. If smoke is excessive, cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool.
After Self-Clean
Allow the oven to cool completely before opening the door. Wipe ash residue from the oven floor with a damp cloth. If error code F30 (door lock fault) or F31 (oven overtemperature) appears during or after self-clean, the door lock mechanism or high-limit thermostat may need service. Do not attempt to force the door if it remains locked after cooling — contact a technician.
