Knowing when to immediately stop using an Electrolux appliance and call for emergency service can prevent fires, flooding, gas exposure, and electrical injuries. The following guide covers the emergency indicators for each appliance type.

Immediate Shut-Off Required

  • Gas smell from range or cooktop: Do not operate switches. Evacuate. Call 911 from outside.
  • Sparking or electrical arcing from any appliance: Unplug immediately or shut off the circuit breaker. Do not touch the appliance if standing in water.
  • Burning smell or smoke from dryer: Stop the dryer, unplug it. If smoke is visible, evacuate and call 911.
  • Active water flooding from washer or dishwasher: Shut off the water supply valve. Unplug the appliance.
  • Refrigerant smell (sweet chemical odor) from refrigerator, freezer, or wine cooler: Ventilate the area. Do not operate electrical switches near the appliance.
  • Microwave operating with door open or damaged: Unplug immediately. Do not attempt repair.
  • Oven door stuck locked with oven hot and smoking: Turn off at the circuit breaker. Do not force the door. Allow to cool completely.

After Emergency Shut-Off

Do not attempt to restart or repair the appliance yourself after an emergency shut-off. Contact a qualified Electrolux technician to diagnose and repair the fault before resuming use. For gas emergencies, the gas utility must clear the area before the appliance is reconnected. For electrical emergencies, have both the appliance and the circuit inspected before restoring power.
