Electrolux Refrigerator: Food Safety During Power Outages

Electrolux refrigerator: food safety during power outages — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.

A power outage can put the food in your Electrolux refrigerator and freezer at risk within hours. Knowing how long food remains safe and what steps to take can prevent foodborne illness and minimize waste.

Temperature Safety Rules

  • A closed refrigerator keeps food safe for approximately 4 hours without power
  • A full freezer holds temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if half full)
  • Keep doors closed as much as possible — every opening accelerates warming
  • Food that has been above 40°F (4°C) for more than 2 hours should be discarded
  • Frozen food that still contains ice crystals may be safely refrozen

After Power Returns

Your Electrolux refrigerator will display the PF (power failure) code when power is restored. The refrigerator should resume cooling automatically. Check both compartment temperatures with a thermometer — the fresh food section should be at or below 40°F and the freezer at 0°F or below. If the SY EF or SY CF error codes appear after an outage, the cooling system may need professional attention.

When to Discard Food

Discard all perishable foods (meat, dairy, prepared foods, cut fruits) if the refrigerator compartment was above 40°F for more than 2 hours. Condiments, hard cheeses, and unopened items may still be safe — use the USDA FoodKeeper guidelines for specific items. When in doubt, throw it out.
