Electrolux Home Products recalled approximately 49,000 Frigidaire and Electrolux dishwashers due to a fire hazard caused by the heating element. CPSC Recall #12-249 was issued after reports of the dishwasher’s heating element failing during the drying cycle, causing components to overheat and melt.
The heating element in affected dishwashers could contact the interior tub and overheat, posing a fire risk. Electrolux received reports of melted components, smoke, and minor property damage before the recall was announced. Consumers were advised to stop using the heated dry function immediately.
Affected Models
Models covered: Frigidaire FGHD2465N, FPHD2491K, and Electrolux EIDW6305G and EIDW6105G dishwashers manufactured between February 2011 and October 2012. Check the model label inside the door opening on the left side.
Required Action Steps
- Stop using the heated dry cycle immediately.
- Check your model and serial number against the recall list.
- Contact Electrolux at 1-800-944-9044 to schedule a free in-home repair.
- A technician will replace the heating element with an updated version.
- Do not use the heated dry feature until the repair is complete.
